Davis, a two-time All-Star, annouced his decision to join the Knicks to ESPN.com on Sunday afternoon. He is expected to sign a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

Davis, 32, could miss two months or more, depending on his recovery period of a bulging disc. The 13-year veteran was released last Friday by Cleveland via the new amnesty clause. Although he was an All-Star in 2002 and 2004, he’s been on the downside of his career in recent seasons, with his back presenting his latest injury woes. He hasn’t played a full season since 2007-08.

But the Knicks were weakened at the point guard position when they released Chauncey Billlups in order to have enough money to sign free-agent center Tyson Chandler. Their point guards heading into the season-opener on Christmas are veteran Mike Bibby, Toney Douglas and rookie Iman Shumpert.

In 58 games for the Clippers and Cavaliers last season Davis averaged 13.1 ppg and 6.7 apg.
