Charles Barkley Keeps It Real In His New Show “The Race Card”

The Race Card is a new show hosted by former NBA player Charles Barkley on TNT. The program will premiere in 2017, and the first promo for the series has begun to air just in time for the start of the 2016-17 NBA season. In the promo, Barkley states, “Race has been the biggest problem of my adult life, and I want to provide a conversation. People never talk about race until something bad happen, and then all they do is yell and scream. The thing that I want to do is try to make it better, especially with the cops. Because the police aren’t always bad guys.”

Barkley talks Alabama the place he was born and being born the the same year of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. The Race Card is meant to be for everyone, not just a documentary on Barkley’s life. Barkley will talk about standing up for the LGBTQ friends community, different races are depicted in movies, and he also stated, “is not about black and white. It’s about Hispanics, it’s about Muslims, it’s about Jewish people. It’s about everybody. We’re all in this thing together.” Barkley says his goal is to provide a conversation about a subject many avoid.

I just want to do a positive dialogue because I’m sick of arguing over race all the time,” Barkley said. “Like, I’m very aware that racism does exist, it always has and probably always will, but the media does a really poor job. There’s more good than bad, but the bad pops off the newspaper and on television. And like I said, the truth is somewhere in the middle.”

Barkley spoke on his first episode,”We started talking about, like every time I see a mass shooting, I’m saying to myself, ‘Please don’t be black.’ And I said to them, every time you see a bomb, what are you thinking?” And they’re like, ‘Please don’t be a Muslim,'” Barkley said.
