just keeps getting better and better as Eminem has announced that he’d investing in and partnering with the lyric-annotation website. While the investment numbers were not disclosed, Genius has already pulled raised an additional $40M in series B funding that was led by investor and Cleveland Cavaliers owner, Dan Gilbert.

Along side the likes of Rick Rubin, The Dream, and A-Trak, Eminem created a verified account on Genius which will allow him to keep annotating his own lyrics on the site, which is pretty significant due to the fact that Em’s lyrics are constantly scrutinized. Genius will be the “official lyrics engine” for and all of Shady Records‘ online properties.

Here’s what Eminem had to say about partnership:

Coming up we would always obsess over the lyrics from our favorite MCs. Picking everything apart, trying to get into their heads. I still do that today and Genius helps to make it a worldwide conversation. Pretty amazing to me.

Paul Rosenberg, co-owner of Shady Records and Eminem’s longtime manager echoed similar thoughts:

Genius provides an avenue for fans to dig deeper into their favorite songs, but more importantly, it gives artists a way to communicate their artistic intent directly to those fans. For an artist like Eminem, the intricacies and nuances in his lyrics are very layered and his art is a perfect fit for this type of tool. We’re excited about what this partnership brings for both sides.
