At a Granada Hills pool party Saturday night on August 20, a shooting left two injured and Los Angeles rapper Kid Cali dead, via reports from KTLA .
The 30-year-old rapper recently signed to Jaccpot Records, Washington Redskins wide receiver Desean Jackson’s label. The NFL player took to Instagram and wrote “I’m at a loss for words,” after the report on the rappers passing.
Kid Cali is being remembered by Snoop Dogg, Nipsey Hussle, NBA forward Matt Barnes and others, including artist manager Steve Lobel who posted a photo of the artist as well.
It is not yet clear what led to the shooting, or if the victims were owners or guests at the home, but police believe the incident occurred in the backyard of the residence. No suspects have been identified, and any additional information on the shooter besides the fact that it was a male is unknown.
“We would like people to cooperate and give a good account of what occurred,” LAPD Sgt. Humberto Najera said. “I understand that people here are scared, they’re frightened, so it’s natural that they would want to immediately leave.”
Because the party was posted to social media, Police said that guests the homeowners did not know of began showing up, and attendance grew very quickly to the hundreds. Police were called about 9 p.m and though many left the party before they arrived, those investigating plan on speaking to guests.
The artist who was gunned down had a promising future ahead of him. Although police are unsure of the suspect, some believe it to be someone who knew the artist. Rappers like Nipsey Hussle, Snoop Dogg, and others mentioned above saw Kid Cali’s potential.
We extend our deepest sorrows to the rapper and his family, and may he rest in peace.
