Chance The Rapper’s #SoGoneChallenge has had quite the impact, as we’ve seen athletes like Dame Lillard, Dwyane Wade, Rasheed Wallace, as well as celebrities like Kevin Hart, Keke Palmer and, R&B songstress Monica (the song’s originator) take on the challenge.
All of these people and more have followed the trend that’s kept us thoroughly entertained this week.
Now the legendary rappers from Queensbridge, Mobb Deep, have created their own challenge.
The Infamous Mobb Deep sent out the call for the #ShookOnesChallenge using their classic 1995 single “Shook Ones (Pt. II)” from their debut “The Infamous.” The record is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all-time.
“No disrespect to those doing the #SoGoneChallenge but we want to know where the real spitters at?” The official Mobb Deep Instagram page wrote. Prodigy made the call, so it’s on #ShookOnesChallenge let’s go! No whack Ish allowed… #InfamousSociety #IceExports #MobbDeep”
Prodigy had a different approach for his announcement of the #ShookOnesChallenge writing:
“Forget that #sogonechallenge now I wanna see that #shookoneschallenge rappers, singers upload your videos with the hashtag #shookoneschallenge I’ll repost the best ones.”
It seems Mobb Deep’s mission is not only to give new life to their hit, but to bring back the culture of 90’s hip hop. The single “Shook One’s” was a cultural milestone particularly for the city of New York.
On top of that, having their single resurface could result into some pretty nice cash flow. Forbes reported that streams for “So Gone” catapulted to 233% while the sales were boosted more than 400% since August 10 on Apple Music alone. Whether you do the #SoGoneChallenge or #ShookOnesChallenge if you’re an aspiring rapper, hop on the bandwagon—you may get reposted.
