Spike Lee’s much anticipated Red Hook Summer has released its official trailer, the latest in his Chronicles of Brooklyn anthology. The movie revolves around a young suburban black kid from Atlanta who is sent to the Red Hook projects in Brooklyn to spend the summer with a grandfather he has never met. It was self-financed and took 18 days to film. The crew consisted substantially of NYU students, and the cast list of lesser-knowns reads like this: Clarke Peters, Jules Brown, Toni Lysaith, Nate Parker, James Ransone, Thomas Jefferson Byrd. While taking a religious tone, the film honestly resonates Lee’s indie appeal with “old home video”-styled shots and controversial topics of diversity.
