After getting a short glimpse to the story of Nas‘ timeless celebrated album, Illmatic, we now have a behind-the-scenes look at the production of the documentary. Following graffiti artist One9 and music editor Erik Parker, the two take turns describing the moments leading up to the their meeting with Nas and deciding to follow through on the project. Originally meant to be a short documentary strictly focusing on the making of the album, Time is Illmatic grew organically as a story bigger than Nas recording in a studio; it was a reflection of the culture around him and the reality surrounding him during the tumultuous ’90s era in Queensbridge, NY. Check out the behind-the-scenes video above.
