Erase everything you thought about Mazda, because the Mazda6 is nothing you would imagine coming from Mazda. From top of the line standard safety features, to a powerful engine (in the category), great MPG and a stylish design, the 2016 Mazda6 will not only change the narrative but also completely blow your mind.
The Mazda6 has new additions that not only enhance safety but the overall driver experience. Their 2.5L Skyactiv-G gas engine improves performance, and EPA-estimated highway MPG than most of the competition. As I drove this machine for a week, I felt myself wanting to drive it more and more. Because living in NYC is so harsh on cars its important that any car I review can stand the rough NYC streets, with all the potholes, bumps and craters found everywhere from Manhattan to Queens and Brooklyn. Of course MPG is important in NY, the traffic will abuse your tank in a heart beat, but the Mazd6 gives you and estimated 40 on the HWY with a modest 184 horsepower and 185 in torque. I sat in that seat low and felt I was driving a sports car at times, it handles well and has nice pick up. Let go over some of the safety features:
Front side-impact air bags
Dynamic Stability Control with Traction Control System, 4-wheel ABS with Electronic Brake force Distribution and Brake Assist.
Mazda Radar Cruise Control (Automatically controls the engine and brakes to maintain a safe speed and distance between you and the preceding vehicle.)
Lane Departure Warning System (Alerts you when the system senses the car drifting unintentionally from its current lane.)
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (Alerts you if a vehicle approaches your Mazda6 from the side when you’re backing out of a parking space or driveway.)
Blind Spot Monitoring (Alerts you if a vehicle or object is in one of your blind spots and it’s unsafe to change lanes.)
Overall, the Mazda6 gets a 3.5 out of 5. With all the amazing safety features it lacks a bit on parking assist, the camera when parking doesn’t move as you park, also I had some issues syncing my iPod but the navigation is great and it anticipates traffic and automatically takes you to the local road then puts you back on the highway when the traffic has subsided. If the Mazda6 is possibly in your future, head to the site and build your own here.
